Invest in Yourself: You are your greatest investment option.
Study break! You’ve been working hard on your journey to financial independence, and we decided to celebrate by discussing something much more lighthearted and close to all of us — ourselves!
Keeping your body and mental health at tip-top shape is crucial in maintaining the sanctity of our work-life balance. We all know this: getting burnt-out and not wanting to function anymore is tiring and disheartening, and hampers our ability to be productive at home and in the workplace. In light of this, we’ve prepared some tips to take the edge off of the daily grind.
- Invest in your physical well-being.
Even though financial investment might initially seem like a mental job, our capacity to work and retain information is directly coupled with our physical self. If you don’t refuel nor give your body the break it needs, it’ll only end up with you getting sick and hinder your progress in anything and everything you do. We all know, maybe too well, how near impossible it is to give a proper output or properly retain information when we’re stressed, lost, in pain, and not in top shape.
Physical well-being makes you feel fresh and ready to take on the world. So what do we recommend? Do some stretches away from the computer — savor the cracks and the sweet soreness of activity. While you’re at it, refuel your body with some water and maybe a little snack. Don’t overwork your body. Listen to music while sinking into the couch. We guarantee that the next time you look at requirements, or even charts in the stock market, you’ll have a fresh and rested pair of eyes: quick to notice small details, more effective than ever.
2. Invest in your emotional well-being.
Over the quarantine, we’ve also discovered that being left to our own devices may have taken a toll on our mental state. This is important, because mental well-being is just as, if not even more important than our physical condition! However, during this quarantine, you might not have been able to take care or pay attention to your mental health. Cooped up at home, maybe you’re in need of physical affection, a change of scenery, and meeting your friends again.
What do we recommend? Have game nights with your friends, and afterwards have an e-numan followed by a movie! Move to a different area of your house while you’re working, in order to put physical distance from your sleep and leisure spaces. Take a while to go out of the house for a walk, and smell the freshly cut grass along the sidewalk. Actively put rest on your schedule. If you’re thinking ‘I don’t have time for this’, try it out for a few days. It’s amazing how much time you have once you start budgeting: 24 hours in a day — we’re sure you have an hour for pampering. This works hand-in-hand with investing in your personal well-being because if you don’t feel stressed, chances are your body will feel relaxed and less tense. People are able to more effectively solve problems when they have a clear mind and a steady hand — and solutions can actually come to you out of nowhere when you aren’t stressed or overthinking!
3. Invest in your mind and skills.
If after resting your mind and your body, you have more time and you find yourself restless without anything to do. You can use that time to your advantage. Even though you’re stuck at home, there’s a whole host of knowledge and skills you can learn on the internet. Take online courses, watch instructional videos, research, and read articles — it’s like diversifying your investments. Through learning more skills, you’re more ready for possible future assignments that might need them. You also increase the options you have in your career. Imagine you’ve graduated from your course, and now, all because of that one summer you decided to learn Photoshop and video editing, you have the option of working for a design company, a video editing company, a marketing company, even. There’s so much we can do now that can make an impact on our future. Also, it just satisfies your thirst for knowledge! For some of us, or maybe a lot of us, so many of the things we do and lessons we learn may be things we aren’t passionate about. So take time to learn a hobby that you’ve been interested with for so long, but have never been able to justify doing. Not only will it make you feel genuinely excited about something, it will also let you improve yourself. Trust us — it’s worth it.
4. Treat yourself.
All the frugality we’ve been emphasizing in past articles to invest doesn’t paint the full picture. While investing a large portion of your money in stocks and bonds is a good long term plan, every savvy investor knows to put money aside just for themselves. That’s right — something you rarely hear from financial pages; but we need to learn how to treat ourselves! Allot 10–20% of your budget to making yourself feel good. Give yourself 1–2 hours a day to be excited over what you love. What we emphasize is to always make sure you make the most from your money. Buy the products you want at low or discounted prices to make your money go the distance!
Investing in skincare can be a way to treat yourself. We know that you don’t get to go out much nowadays due to the quarantine but that doesn’t mean that you don’t need to take care of your skin. Skincare is actually a great way to feel good about yourself amidst these challenging times. Your skin covers almost your whole body, so skin care is quite literally self-care. By feeling that your skin is being cleansed of germs, dirt, and other nasty stuff, it can give you a sort of relief. Applying the right products gives you this sense of relief and relaxation. However, this feeling is often ruined by a sudden sting from some skincare products that are supposed to make you look and feel good. We do not need this compromise of pain for quality, especially since there is a brand out there that does not believe in delivering tiis ganda products. Silka is that brand and it embodies what we want you to realize in this article. That is to take care of yourself. Silka’s brand promise of alaga goes beyond just delivering skin care products that can cleanse your skin but it goes so far as to remove the sting of your regular skin care products, as well as removing the sting on your budget. Alaga for your skin and your wallet. If you don’t believe us, then take a look at their product list on Lazada and Shoppee. Their products also offer you whiter skin after just one week of use. They are even promoting a Happy White Weeksary campaign due to their confidence in their products to deliver this one-week result. At the end of the day, you get that sense of relief and relaxation while applying Silka’s skin care products, without that singeing pain and with less worries to your budget. And you smell fruity fresh by the time you finish too! A self-care experience for your skin and wallet.
Here’s a few examples of what Silka has to offer. Silka Green Papaya Soap that can moisturize your skin and leaves you smelling fruity and fresh for Php 43.50 (currently on sale for Php 39 on Shopee!). They also carry the Silka Green Papaya Deo that can whiten underarms and eliminate BO for Php 41.75. A great product to look out for is their Silka Green Papaya Facial Cleanser that only costs Php 39.25. This cleanser can remove traces of dirt and make up while lessening the emergence of acne scars and dark spots. When using all of these be ready to celebrate a Happy White Weeksary!
Lastly, we have to remember that the key to being happy and being financially savvy at the same time is simple: all things in moderation. Buy yourself something you know you can use — just make sure you get the best deal on it. At the end of the day, these are investments. Why do we invest again? To get something in return, especially when it’s worth it and deserving of being invested in. That’s what you are. You are worth it and you deserve being invested in. What do we advocate for? Research first — and invest carefully, according to your resources. The same should hold true with investing in yourself. Research for the best deal, while carefully considering the resources you have.
We’ll see you again next week — happier, healthier, and wiser. And that’s all we could ever ask from our viewers. To more power!
